Auld Lang Syne 2014

HAPPY NEW YEAR BLOGGERS! Yep, it is THAT time of year, only a few more hours here is California.  I know there are parts of this world who have already celebrated and seen the new year come in, but here on the West Coast we always say "they save the best for LAST!"..........LOL I've found a little history about the song, that most of us sing........or at least hum on New Years Eve.  I really found this to be interesting......I hope you do too.   I found this information HERE "Auld Lang Syne" ( Scots pronunciation:  [ˈɔːl(d) lɑŋˈsəin] : note "s" rather than "z") [1] is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 [2] [3] and set to the tune of a traditional folk song ( Roud # 6294). It is well known in many countries, especially in the English-speaking world, its traditional use being to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight. Robert Burns sent a copy of the original song to the Scots Musical Museum with the rem

The LasT Tuesday of 2014

Some of my favorite T-day pictures from 2014 I hope everybody had a fantastic holiday, and your looking forward to the new year, that is just around the corner. Our last gathering of T stands for Tuesday for 2014!  An amazing year, amazing that I got this far through it...without broken bones or any health issues.....LOL!! I have spent the day cleaning up what was left from the mess after our celebration on Saturday.  The decorations were all down and put away before I went to bed Saturday night (I had had enough) all but the tree itself.  Sunday the DH and I worked on our refrigerator, the condenser keeps icing up.  We pulled the back panel off and defrosted it......again!  DH got on the PC and found the part "he" thinks is the problem and got it ordered.  That was an all day pain in the butt!!  I tackled taking apart the Christmas tree today and put it in the box and out in the garage it went.  The dust and tinsel (which I JUST had to put on the tree this year),

T stands for getting ready for Santa

Image
L to R: Hannah (8) Rachel (8) Megan (4) Madelynn (5)  What a day this G-ma has had!!  4 girls for the day and oh what fun we did have getting ready for Santa.  We started off by painting Styrofoam plates to look like peppermint candy.......LOTS of RED paint!!  Once they were dry we stapled them inside to inside and wrapped them with plastic wrap and tied the ends.  They painted long (free) paint stirring sticks to look like candy canes, then we I pounded the sticks into the front flower bed.  Then we took the plates and slipped them over the sticks.     Here they are in the flower bed.  Now I JUST NOW ran out and snapped this picture (since I just realized I didn't get one this afternoon).  It is 10:30PM Monday night and I am already showered and in my PJs.......What I will do for the Tea gang over at Elizabeth's  !!!! Decorating gift bags for a game we will play Christmas Eve. So, on with what else we did today. They are busy, busy, busy.  We will all be t

tin of mints, wooden drawers with punches in them, ott light, small black bin with post it, paint water, spray bottle owl full of pens and pencils, ott light small container o sharp things, and revolving storage.  In the middle are some Christmas stamps, note book, pens and my glasses......and a string of 12 gift tags I'm working on.  Hello WOYWWers!  It has been a while since Betsy and I have joined the desker's fun around Blogland.  Betsy sits rather quiet now, we have all our shopping finished, wrapped and under the tree.  All the decorations are up and waiting for the jolly little elf to show up Christmas eve.  I did a rather foolish thing, for this time of year, I decided to move the stuff on Betsy around............and it became a full fledge re-do.  There was just too much on the desk top, to much pile high along side of me, too much that needed it's own space and just TOO MUCH!!!!  I was getting to the point I didn't want to sit at Betsy and create, I was ju

Sparkle and Shine for JOURNAL 52

Image
Whoa! Only TWO more challenges to go for 2014 Journal 52  !  This week the prompt is Sparkle and Shine, great for holiday time. I used a pearlescence white paint for the snow, but the photo just makes it look dirty.....LOL  I also used a metallic paint for the ornaments, barely shows, and least the sparkle shows.....grin Ready for the Holiday?  I found myself finished last week and not liking it :(  I feel a little left out of the hustle and bustle and Christmas spirit............maybe I'll bake tomorrow and that will make the house smell like Christmas. Are you baking this year? Inky Hugs Krisha

T sTands for TREE and Tea

old cup, fresh coffee   Hard to believe that it has been a WHOLE week since my last post, where, oh where did this last week go?  Well, there was Tea Time visiting with Elizabeth and the tea gang  Tuesday morning, finished all the decorating I'm going to do this year.  Wed. it was back adjustment day, then a dreaded trip to Costco (really wasn't so bad, guess most are finished with their Christmas shopping).  That night I decided to move ONE thing on Betsy, and the whole thing blew up into a MAJOR change (hopefully I can do WOYWW to show it off)  Before I could finish that project the storm started, very HIGH winds to start with.  The wind blew almost all night,  DH and I had gone into the front yard to check the tree and what we saw was cause for a sleepless night.  The tree has had a big split in it for sometime, and we had it pruned way back over a year ago, trying to save it.  As the wind gust the split would move!!!YIKES!  If the one section came down it would be th

Weekend Happenings for Tea Day

Image
GDs decorated the melted snowman cookies, Hannah did the reindeer on the right and Megan did some art on the cookie at the bottom. Surprise! No Today Journal page this week, but a real picture to take it's place for the weekly Tea Party with Elizabeth and Bluebeard ...LOL  The GDs were here for the weekend, whilest Mom and Dad went to a Christmas party, so there were lots of happenings going on here.  My new Christmas cup tell just how MY diet has been going, and the reason why......grin! Saturday afternoon they made ornaments Santa's helpers   The ornaments that made it to G-ma's tree.....the rest went home for their tree.  You can see how close they put some of the ornaments while decorating my tree........still have bare spots.....but I love it anyway!   Sunday we baked cookies and then decorated them, watched Polar Express and played games outside (had to wear off some of that sugar...LOL)   By now you all know I never get tired of

Journal 52 week 49

Holy Smokes! Only three more weeks to go and this year's Journal 52  challenge will be over!! This week the prompt is "Doodle".  I had just finished putting the final touches to some house decorations and had sat down to put my feet up, when I happened to check my cell, and there was the email with the prompt.  I grabbed a page from my journal and some sharpies and went back to the sofa, put my feet back up and created while watching NCIS.  I was going to watch a Christmas movie, I had recorded earlier, but the NCIS was all re-runs and I didn't have to really "watch" them. Thanks for stopping by. Inky Hugs Krisha PS.....Yes E, I had already posted yesterday, before the prompt.....LOL  But you know I love to doodle................................grin

Doodles and Scribbles

Image
Happy Friday!  I'm not real sure where Monday-Thursday went, but Friday has arrived once again.   Before Thanksgiving, while there were some time that wasn't spoken for, I did a little playing around in one of my art journals.  This doodle was done with colored sharpie pens.  The green almost looks like the black in this photo.  Had this idea bouncing around in my head, making all kinds of racket, until I finally sat down and put it on paper.....................sure is quiet now!    When I was a kid, many, many, years ago, my friends and I would make what we called "Scribble Pictures". Scribble a page and then take hours coloring in all the spaced.  Well, as  history does repeat itself, it has come back!  I have seen many projects like this on the Art Journal Junkies and Abandoned Art groups from all over the world, of course most of them think it is "new", not having been around as long as I have........LOL!  So with fond memories I created

The first Tea of December

Image
Tea Time with Elizabeth has once again arrived, right on time, but for once I'm a little ahead of the game by not being so late........grin Hope everyone, that celebrates, had a bountiful Thanksgiving.  We had a VERY busy four days and loved almost every minute ( well I'm trying not to bleatingly lie!)  After all the hustle and bustle, the cooking, the cleaning, getting everyone here or there on time and felt this page of my Today journal was a good one to share.  Believe me the china tea cups, that I do own, were set up HIGH over the weekend.  Youngest DIL did manage to break the lid to my Tevana brewing cup......:(  .  But it is just a cup, and the lid is all that broke.  I purposely left this page mostly black and white, and only colored the tea pot. HIGHLITES OF THE WEEKEND: Megan came in her costume from pre school.  Her Indian name is Silver Swan Megan 4 1/2 and Danica 4 went right to dressing up! The first time we were all together to trim the tree.

Journal 52 week 48

Happy December!!! Woha!!..........wasn't it just October??  Here we are the last 4 weeks of the year, well technically 4 weeks and 2 days.....LOL This weeks Journal 52 prompt is "Build a Snowman".  Of course Olaf was the first thing to come to my mind after all the "Frozen" things around here, he is my favorite character in the whole movie.  Just a goofy little snowman that makes the whole movie come together...........IMHO! I gessoed up the page and did snowflake stamp resists with clear embossing powder.  For the cool color I used a Gelato and a wet-one, and also created the flipped up page corner.  I drew in the hat, scarf, carrot and the lumps of coal with a marker.  To make the snow drifts more defined I used a pearl white puffy paint, and Olaf was trimmed and glued to the corner.  Of course the sentiment is hand written........grin A really quick and easy page and a ton of fun to create.  The grandkids will love it and that's all that matters.
