Painting the Town Red

Image
Sunday my inner muse came out to play in my art journal.......I sometimes think she a bit childish, and this page proves it....LOL!  Little die cut and stamped houses all in red for the  Art Journal Journey challenge  this month of 50 shades of red.  The paint can and paint brush were cut with my Cricut and little flower stickers just to make me happy! I was curious to find out just what "Painting the Town Red" meant.  I found a lot of discussion about it on the internet, but this one kept popping up over and over........and I think it might be closer to the truth. The expression is American slang meaning to go on a reckless debauch, to be wildly extravagant. Originally, the metaphor applied to bonfires painting the sky or scenery red. An old Irish ballad contains the lines: The beacon hills were painted red/ With many a fire that night. The immediate source of the phrase may be traced to the times when a Mississippi steamboat captain would want to defea...

T Stands for Paint Pals

Welcome back  T-Gang , friends and followers, thanks for stopping by today.  It is Monday here, and raining again......I do love the rain.  If it weren't quite so chilly, I'd throw open the windows and let all the fresh air ( yes, California has pockets of fresh air...LOL) in and be able to listen to the rain come down.  Oh well, I have my cup of coffee right here to keep my hands warm as it is.  If I open the windows I'd have to find a pair of gloves. Last Tuesday I had some painting pals come over and we painted abstract poppies together.......right along with a video on You Tube!!! It was a painting with Jane video that we all agreed we would give it a try, since it was done with a pallet knife. If your interested you can see the video  You Tube video Here> So let me introduce my painting pals: (notice the TV showing video in the background) For all the T-Gang......there were bottles of water for all of us.  Patty and I had j...

Fifty Shades of Red

Image
Art Journal Journey challenge: Fifty Shades of Red  started on the first of February and will run the whole month.   Linda, of heARTfully Inspired blog  is our hostess this month, and the fifty shades of red was her choice.......and I think it was a really good one for this month.  Think love, Valentines , flowers ........oh, and don't forget chocolates!!! I chose to go with flowers , for my first entry, not that I'm NOT romantic.......but I've been keeping an eye on some of my flower bulbs that have broken through and are growing quickly.  Sadly they are not tulips......I might have to buy some this year. Okay, so I just gathered up a handful of red implements, Gelato, watercolor pencils, markers and watercolor paint and started, using a baby wipe to blend with.  The flowers were done in watercolor pencil and then blended with a damp paint brush, adding a bit of red watercolor to the bulbs, then splattering red, dark red and white. Well, that'...

Elizabeth the Altered Book Lover Tuesday, September 17, 2013 Mixed Media Stacking Canvases It is always so much fun to do a mixed media piece when it is a labor of love.  This is my DIL's birthday present ( she has already seen a picture of it ).  It is a picture of Taylor our Grandson, isn't he  a doll at 4 months??? I won't go into great detail as to how I made this, as it took me almost two days to make it.  I did start by stacking 3 canvases, making the middle tier off center for some interest.  I covered parts with paper, parts with paint, coat of gesso, inks here and there, modeling paste through a stencil, ink through a stencil and some splattering of ink.  Most of the shapes are grunge board and had to be painted.  There are flowers, sea shells, stamped sport balls, buttons in the shapes of cars and dogs.  The baseball bat on top of the smallest canvas is part of a key chain that was my Mom's (his great gran...

Hello NBUS #10

Image
Hostess; Darnell    Darnell  has been running her famous NBUS challenges for three weeks now.  This is the last one and what a twist she through in this week........bubble wrap.....HA! She can be a shifty character when Hammy is out and about.......but I digress (somewhat) For this NBUS challenge I chose a NBUS bicycle die that my friend Patty (one of my Paint Pals) gave to me a couple weeks ago.  I cut it out in a mirrored fuchsia card stock and used a black alcohol marker to paint the tires and seat.  The background is markers smeared on an acrylic block, spritzed with water, then smashed onto the die cut frame. ( I love this technique for backgrounds).  I inked up some small bubble wrap and gave the bike a path to ride on.  I thought the basket needed some flowers, so I found some NBUS tiny flower and leaf stamps .......I was wondering what I was going to use such a small flower stamp for......... *grin* All are mounted on a bl...

T Stands for More Las Vegas

Happy T-day my friends!  I had quite a few questions on my last  T-day post  and thought I would start with a few answers....as best I can.   1.The man in the photo with Bob and I is Penn, of Penn and Teller......funny and fascinating magicians. 2. Uber is like a taxi.......but the drivers are people who use their own cars for the service of transporting you.  You down load an app, on your cell phone, then when you need a ride, you pull up the app and say where you want to go......then you see drivers and their prices.  Then you click on the driver/price you want and the driver gets the request and the app will show how long you will wait.  It also shows you a small map, and where the driver is in comparison to where you are and how long it will be before they reach you. You do have to use a credit card to pay, but everything is so simple, and secure, and we talked to our drivers a lot about being part of Uber, and how it works.  There are ...
