Reflections of Autumn

The Art Journal Journey challenge, for the month of October, is right at end.......with a woosh the month has flown by.  I am just getting this entered under the wire.

The background, of this journal page was a mash of scraps, then painted over with acrylic.  My inspiration for this was this mood board from Mixed Media Monthly ....Yep! I getting in under the wire on this one too....LOL

Hope you day is going great and is full of wonderful creativity.  It is Sunday morning here, and we are getting an other shower of rain........smell so fresh outside....mmmmmm!

If You Wait Long Enough.......

If you wait long enough, or in my case, just get things half made (grin) the challenges roll around that fit your project....LOL!
I have started making a few Christmas cards......or at least getting some of the components made.
This little gold embossed tree has been sitting on Betsy for almost two weeks!  I finally mounted it on some gold glitter paper, added a few rhinestones and got it onto a card base, with a simple sentiment.
The black background paper is a glossy cardstock, but getting it photoed was a challenge in it's self.
I adore how this card turned out, and hope to make a few more, but the black glossy cardstock is getting harder to find these days.
Here are the challenges that came along to fit my card...LOL!

Last one to the Party?

Well here it is Tuesday, again, and time to get over to the party Elizabeth throw for the T-gang every week.  I've checked her blog and know that I'm running late, I almost sent my regrets for this week and didn't post. I had so many errands to run yesterday, and by the time I got home I was pooped!

So what has kept me hopping this past week? Dentist check-up on that root canal, visit with the architect ...ready to move to the next step on blueprints for the new house, our 43rd anniversary...which we waited till Friday to celebrate...nothing big...just dinner...our GD, Megan went with us and then came back for a sleepover. Saturday her and I went to the Pumpkin Patch, that some friends of ours own.  Plenty of photo ops and things for the kids to do.

The entrance to the hay bale maze.........

Bean bag toss......

One of many photo ops.......

Pumpkins for her and Hannah........
Sunday was a decorating meeting for Madeline's (Maddie) birthday party.  Her parents came over to discuss what "we" were going to do and for a list of materials needed.  Sounds like a lot of fuss for a 7th birthday party.......but there is a reason.  The party is going to be a premier, of sorts, for a woman that wants to start an "event" place.....and they want a lot of photos for a brochure.  It's a friends helping friends type of thing......since none of us are wealthy we are figuring out how to do it on a budget....LOL!  Tammy, the owner has a fantastic backyard all set up for entertaining and events.  They just bought this house last spring, the previous owner really did a lot of custom work in the house, and in the yard.  There is a castle for the kids to play in, a pool, a stage, cement tables and a lot of grass area.
So what do "I" have to do with it???  I am the one with the Cricut and a sewing machine and no job....LOL!!  I am working on fabric banners to hang on the castle......more about that horror story later...grin* Then there is a lot of crowns to be cut and shield to be made........and on goes the list.
Then there are the other half dozen projects, that are half finished.......and some new stash that needs put away.
Now it is time for me to take my last cup of coffee and head over and join the T-gang....hope they don't mind that I'm still in my jammies and robe......

The Last Leaf

One more entry for the Art Journal Journey challenge Indian Summer/Golden October/Autumn
A mix of Gelatos, inks and markers.  The sentiment reads: One little leaf hangs on to the memory of summer past.
I have mixed feeling about this photo, the highlights on tree really stand out in the photo (not so much in real life) and the background is more muted, and the sentiment nearly disappeared. I guess the camera looks at different mediums different than the human eye does.

This challenge runs for the month of October so there is still plenty of time to join in the fun.

Fill'er Up

Here we go on a new week, #3 for October.....and it is going to be a crazy busy one around here.
So with THAT, I thought I'd better get a jump start on a few things tis morning ( already mid-morning here in SOCAL)  My AI card and cup of coffee are for all my T-Gang .... the inside reads "No talky...before coffee"  sounds about right.

We had some rain last night, it was just starting to sprinkle around 11 P.M.  The ground is not soaking wet so it must have been an off and on rain, but the rain drops were still on my gladiolas this morning.  These are a dark red gladiola, but with the bright sun shinning through them they look orange.  Now that we have had a little wind and a nice shower, the air is so clean and the sky is blue....all the harvest dust is now gone.

Update on the bottle tag/cards.  I have managed to get two made of both of these designs.
I also met a lady, Saturday evening, that has a new café and gift shop right outside of town.......well where the freeway and off ramp to Shafter are.......about 5 miles from here.  She is a fellow crafter, and as we got to talking I mentioned the cards and tags I make ( just happened to have some photos on my phone *grin*) She is interested in seeing some of them today to sell in her gift shop!!  I said I would come by about 10 this morning.
Well, I'm back from my meeting with Tammy and she bought cards and bottle tags....Wahoo!  Now she wants some art work and some handmade journals.......guess I'm going to get even busier...LOL!
Over the weekend we made a dash over to the winery for the Fall Harvest BBQ and wine pickup.  I didn't take pictures because it is the same winery we always go to.  BUT it was raining Saturday, over there, and everything was moved indoors.....but I enjoyed the cool weather and the gentle rain.  As we were leaving...down a long dirt road, I made DH stop so I could get some pictures of the wild turkeys in that area.

Time to get on with the rest of my day.....laundry is in progress, kitchen needs cleaned and now it is almost lunch time....LOL!

Thursday, October 13, 2016

Well, this week has become a blurr !  I spent Tuesday afternoon at the dentist having a root canal on a tooth he had crowned sometime ago, so that meant removing the crown and doing the root canal, then replacing the crown. UGH!  Two hours later, with half my face still numb, I headed for home.
The tooth is still touchy, but the pain is starting to subside.....this was a tough root canal. That left me feeling a little "off" my usual self yesterday, not really feeling like doing much of I just pittled around at my desk and visited around Blogland.
This is where it led me too, and I just got up and left it last night.  I just took these photos and didn't even bother to edit them...I didn't even turn on the Ott lights...LOL!

I decided to do a little re-creating in this journal I made, and have used from time to time.  I usually keep it by the bed and write in it when I feel the need.  Then, yesterday, I visited Monica at Material Pleasures blog, and she was sharing her journals........quite beautifully done.  She also shared a link to
Art to the 5th Academy I went over and checked it out.  You can join for FREE and once your accepted your can view free tutorials, or pay for workshops and in depth tutorial.  Great bunch of artist and a lot of inspiration.  I haven't quite gotten the knack of the "whole" thing, but gleamed enough to re-create this journal.

Bottle tag/cards......trying to get the layout the way I want it.  I'm not sure, but I may have made a mistake in donating some hand painted cards to my women's group this month. Now one of them has requested something for the holidays.  Most people buy their cards, and I'm not sure of all the religions,  so I was thinking of something different.  A set of bottle tags that are also cards, I hate trying to tape a card to a bottle, of any kind.  So I'm figuring one for Thanksgiving, two for Christmas ( keeping it to general holiday designs), one for New Years and maybe one for a thank you gift.
Your thoughts?
Must dash.......need to put sheets in the drier,  and get ready to head to town.....The next two days are going to be busy ones so I need to get a head start today.  First stop will be the car wash so I can see where I am going....LOL!

T Stands for A Bunny Lunch

No I didn't have a bunny for lunch.....LOL! I am having my morning coffee ( black as usual) in my new cup I won in the drawing last Friday.    This is the second one I've won *grin*
I belong to a group of women called the Bakersfield Bucket List Bunnies, a group of women (45 an older).  When you join the group you get to make a "bucket" list of 5 things you would like to do....within reason, and it gets put in a plastic egg and thrown into a hopper.  Each month they draw an egg and that bucket list is read and decided on which of the 5 items the group/or individuals want do.  THAT is how I ended up taking golf lesson this was on Mary's bucket list and I volunteered to join her.  We also have a guest speaker each month.....this month it was on life insurance....a little late for most of us who have been around long enough to know we need it...LOL!
The first Friday of each month we have a luncheon.  The place we were having our luncheons closed....fantastic place but not a good location....third business not to make it there. :(
Photo of Chalet Basque Restaurant - Bakersfield, CA, United States

Chalet Basque is our new Sponsor  for this year and this is where we are now having our luncheons.  ( there is a long story on how we ended up here.....but maybe more about that an other time)This area has quite a few Basque restaurants, to be honest this is not my favorite Basque restaurant.  It needs a make-over really bad, very dark and dreary on the inside, the prices are high and the service is not consistent. Last month our luncheon was a disaster....semi cold food, not nearly enough food was served and we were constantly asking for more....they had one server for nearly 40 women.

I am a person that will give any place a second chance, but swore I would not be attending the luncheons if we had a repeat!  I am GLAD to say Friday's lunch was top notch.  We had multi servers, the food was hot and freshly made, and it all ran like clock work!......but the place is still dark and dreary....except the banquet room we get to use.  I just hope they keep it top notch, or I'll be eating at Taco Bell....LOL!

Photo of Chalet Basque Restaurant - Bakersfield, CA, United States. First course: vegetable soup (add your own beans and salsa to taste) and bread

The first course, at any Basque restaurants in this area is always the best cabbage and vegetable soup, beans, salsa and fresh bread.  Everything is served  Family Style..........and yes, everybody I know puts the beans in the soup, mine also gets a lot of salsa...*grin*

Photo of Chalet Basque Restaurant - Bakersfield, CA, United States. Lunch Setup $8.95/person served family style

This is what comes with a traditional set-up ( no Entrées)  there are a few that serve different veggies but this is normally what you get.  Entrées are the meat dishes that vary form fried chicken ( which is what we get at our luncheons) to lamb, beef stew, pork chops and with an Entrée you get pickled tong.  I miss the pickled tong at our luncheons  I guess our $20/plate isn't enough to warrant us getting that.  :(  Like I said they are way over priced! NOTE: We always pay $20 for each luncheon, but our luncheons are usually very well worth the money, and there is a bit that goes to the BBLB to help keep it running, so we don't scream about it.

After each luncheon we take a group photo.
There is always somebody taking photos, this time Jamie caught me!
I thought I would share this little internet map of the Basque region.  The "corn dog" post taught me that not all my blogger friends have tasted the types of food we have around here.  AND that is why this post is so long and full of food pictures!
So now I am off to join Elizabeth and the T-gang to see what everyone else is eating and drinking this week.

Dreaming of the Sea Shore

Stepping away from all the autumn colors and challenges, my Mojo brought me to the sea shore.
This is from a fairly new set of Inkadinkado is just one stamp from the set, but it's a beauty!  I simply colored it in a watercolor style and added a black frame.  The sentiment is from Stampendous with a black frame.

Thanks for stopping by.....

Falling in Love

The Art Journal Journey challenge, for October is Indian Summer - Golden October - Autumn  and Valerie is the hostess this month.
This page started as a mop-up page of acrylic paint, I had a few left over leaves laying about so I glued them down and used a leaf stencil for the others.....just tracing them in.  While watching a little (or a lot) of TV I doodled on the paper leaves and then some in the background with a black Sharpie and a white Gel pen.....just keeping it a little more on the simple side.
Our tress have yet to start turning color, but the weather is starting to cool down during the day, and getting to the "nippy" temperatures at night.........awwwwwh such great sleeping weather. *grin*
So, I think I've gotten everything caught up...that is finished ....... 3 posts in one day!  I keep saying I am NOT going to create so much before posting.......but do I listen?
Apparently not.....LOL!

Fall Post Card

Yikes! My second post today!  I'm back with the fall and pumpkin theme   *grin*
I created this post card for my bloggy buddy Deb and it is safe to post now because she already has the PC.  We have been exchanging post cards for well over a year now and it is so much fun to get the ones she makes in the mail.

This is a 5x7 inch post card, I swiped the background with a damp brush loaded with ink.  There are only three stamps used and a whole lot of masking to create this. It was stamped with StazOn black ink and the colored in with the ink watercolor technique that I have fallen in love with.  A little pen work at the bottom and it was ready to go.

I think it just fits the "Pumpkin Time" challenge over at Double D Challenges

Pumpkin Time challenge   isn't that a gorgeous header??

Two posts today and most likely none tomorrow, my friend Patty is coming over for a craft, stamp and paint stay tuned for photos, it is sure to be a great day!

W/C birthday card

Here we are smack in the middle of the week....and it's a great day to be alive!
I am taking a little break from all the fall and Halloween themed cards today, not that I'm tired of making them.....*grin*
I have had this card on the back to speak, waiting for a new challenge blog to start up.....more about that later.
This hydrangea image is from a stamp and die set made by Stampendous.  I chose to just use the stamp for this card. To stamp the image I used a light Lilac marker to color the stamp then went back and used the marker inks for water colors....applied with a brush. Green inks were used for the background wash.......but the flowers didn't stand out very well, so I took a black marker and sketched around the flowers.  Mounting it on the black cs really made them pop and I fell in love with it! Doesn't it feel good when that happens??
Now about that new challenge blog.  It is called  The Flower Challenge ......simple enough to understand what kind of challenges they are going to have.
We would love you to display our banner !
The DT work for this challenge is just beautiful and I hope you can take a moment to hop over there and take a look.

The Witch's New Shoes

I've only done a few Halloween cards this year ( so far).  I don't really send out very many, but this one is going to a friend of mine.  The inside reads "chocolate does the rest" and I'll glue in a chocolate candy. The die cuts came from a stamp and die set I bought on clearance last year.
The background is a fun technique that I learned from visiting Karen's Kreative Kards.  She is one of my new followers and is a DIE CUT QUEEN!  OMGosh, she has some fabulous cards on her blog.
The background is created by wrapping foil over card stock, rubbing with ink.....I used Stazon...placing in embossing folder and embossing.  A quick swipe with and embossing pad, then embossing power and heat!  I must warn you....this can quickly become addictive as each one turns out different!!

Here is a closer look.
Trying to photograph tin foil is tricky to say the loves to flash back at you!  So I filtered the flash with a coffee filter. Now, it doesn't look shiny and it really is ......I can't win!!
I'm entering the Witch's New Shoes in this challenge.
Have a great Day

T Stands for We Won!!

Hello T-gang and anybody else that is happening by.  This weeks drink photo is WATER, and we drank a lot of it over the weekend.
We spent Saturday in Wasco, a small neighboring town, competing in a BBQ Contest.  We, as a cook team, haven't competed since this competition last year.  Just too many grandies doing too many other things to pull everyone together for competitions.
Here is what our cook station looks like.....Ken on the left and our son, Brian on the right.....and back there is the back (without a team shirt) is hubby.  This was early in the morning and as the day progressed we did hang a shade along the back, even though the temperature was a mild 77" (F) and there was a nice breeze all day.
For this competition there are only three meat categories.....chicken, pork ribs and beef tri-tip (which seems to be a California cut of beef, as there are many who do not know what this cut is...and I can't explain it...LOL)
There weren't many cook teams, only 7.  This is a small community, like Shafter, but this event is growing little by little.  Last year there were on 6 cook teams and we took 1st in tri-tip, 2nd in ribs and 3rd in chicken.......and we were happy!!  THIS YEAR we took 1st in tri-tip, 1st in ribs and 1st in chicken.......WOOT! WOOT! .........and THAT also gave us Grand Champion!  Needless to say, even though it was a small competition we are still strutting our wins!
The guys sent me up to collect the wins and get a photo taken.  Drawing your attention away from that horrid photo of me..............those three envelopes hold our cash winnings.......oh ya, there was cash to be won...............and we took it ALL!

Here we are (DH is behind me :( ) with the Wasco Alliance people who put this event on.  Super great people and it is a non-profit organization......the money that is won is from the entry fees and is given all back to the winners.....the Alliance keeps nothing.  All the little things, like turn-in boxes and space in the building, DJ all donated.  The City of Wasco wants this event to happen so the communities can come together and get to know each other.  Is that great??  Now I'm going to start working on Shafter to do the same thing!
Time now to link up with the T-gang over at the Altered Book Lover.  Got a food and/or drink photo to share?  We would love to have you join us!

Loving the Fall Colors

Spring is a beautiful time of the year, all the flowers beginning to bloom, everything so green............errrrech! Wait!..... lets fast forward to the glory of all the fall colors.....the rich golds, royal reds and beaming oranges........what a delight to the eyes. Truly one of my favorite times of the year.
So I'm kicking off this week with this card full of fall colors (even says so right on the card LOL)  Bits and pieces of things laying on my desk came together here.  The pumpkins are part of one of the color "tests" I shared HERE, I just die cut a section of one of them.  The leaf was an extra one from yesterdays post......die cut, dusted with ink and embossed.  The sentiment was inked with three Memento inks and then die cut.  I chose a black card base to make the colors pop a little more.
One, two, three......easy as can be!  Sometimes these "easy" cards rattle me as to why some just seem to fall into place and others are such a struggle.  Do you ever have that problem?
I want to enter this card in these fabulous challenges:
