Elizabeth the Altered Book Lover Tuesday, September 17, 2013 Mixed Media Stacking Canvases It is always so much fun to do a mixed media piece when it is a labor of love.  This is my DIL's birthday present ( she has already seen a picture of it ).  It is a picture of Taylor our Grandson, isn't he  a doll at 4 months??? I won't go into great detail as to how I made this, as it took me almost two days to make it.  I did start by stacking 3 canvases, making the middle tier off center for some interest.  I covered parts with paper, parts with paint, coat of gesso, inks here and there, modeling paste through a stencil, ink through a stencil and some splattering of ink.  Most of the shapes are grunge board and had to be painted.  There are flowers, sea shells, stamped sport balls, buttons in the shapes of cars and dogs.  The baseball bat on top of the smallest canvas is part of a key chain that was my Mom's (his great gran...

Taking Time to Look Back

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 My first Christmas card-vintage style Last night I sat down and decided I need to start my Christmas cards.  What to do, what to do, I have some new Santa stamps from Stubby Stampers, and the new stash I bought last year.....hmmmm. Then I remembered some vintage post cards that had been in my Grandmother's album when I was putting her info on the Family Tree.  So I got them out and scanned them into the PC.  This one has always been my favorite.  The original is almost a 5x8, but I printed 3x5 and trimmed the edges.  I mounted it on a darker blue background paper I had made years ago, then onto an embossed snowflake, then a mirrored silver.  The card I stamped a snowflake in a Pearlescent Sky Blue, before putting all the layers onto it.  I added a powder blue ribbon down the side.  Using the same pearlescent ink I stamped the sentiment, trimmed it small enough to add to the ...

A Second Look on the 2nd

The 2nd of September!! YIKES! Do you realize there are only 4 more months of 2016?? Scary huh?  Being that it is the 2nd day of the month it is time to link up with Elizabeth....The Altered Book Lover  and take a look back.....for a second look.   This month I went back to 2010 to share this post:   Sunday, September 5, 2010 GC69: Chestnut Theme Challenge: Ancient Ages Ancient ages always brings to mind ( or mine anyway ) the great Roman and Greek architecture. ( could be all that art history I took in school ) And since the outer walls of the Roman Coliseum is made of travertine, that is what I chose for my background, or backstone ( ooooh, booo! hiissss! ) I know that's bad, bad! I used 3 different sizes of travertine tiles, they total 6" high and 8" wide. I got to get out some of my favorite stamps for this project. They are from Beeswax, Frantic Stamper, Uptown Designs and MJ Barber. I did a few images then scrapped acrylic pa...

A 2nd Look on the Second

Image
Today,is the 2nd of August and means it time to take a look back, or a second look at something, anything and the link it up with Elizabeth, the Altered Book Lover.     I've been sitting here wondering around Blogland visiting and wondering what I would share. Then I thought I'd take a look at what was going on on this day in 2013 .   I did not copy the whole post, only the art, as we were at a BBQ competition that day.   Friday, August 2, 2013 Missing You Mail Art       This was a post card, made with a decorator paper and a rubber stamp from Red Rouge Rubber Stamps......back when I was a DT member......now sadly they are no longer in business.    Hope you enjoyed a second look at this post card.   Inky Hugs Krisha

Rather nippy here in SOCAL this morning (Monday)......temperatures dropped down to 31' (F) last night........burr!  And that was after a rain storm went through Sunday......I mean it poured all day long!   On nice thing is when the temperature drops and the air cleans up we get to have a fire in the stove.  Since it is a "wood" burning stove we are restricted to the days we are allowed to burn.  What a great spot to set my new coffee mug, to keep it warm, while putting on my socks..........which were warmed up nicely, on the stove, before slipping my feet into them.........you almost got a photo of them too....LOL   Here is a photo from a little further back.  The stove sits in the living room, against a short wall that can be walked around on either side.  The tales this thing could tell, many times I have gotten totally dressed standing in front of it. :O  Why? Cause when there is a fire in this, we shut the furnace o...

Time for a Second Look

Image
Gosh! here it is December 2nd already and time to link up with The Altered Book Lover.....Elizabeth for a second look at what ever you want to share.   I was asked (yesterday) if I'd have the GDs for holiday crafts.  With them all in school these days it is hard to tell, maybe a little closer to Christmas......when they are on Christmas break........oh, I'm supposed to call it "winter break"....well, not HERE......I still say Christmas!!   So, looking back, I found this T-Day post of Hannah and Megan and their craftiness.....   Megan was 3 and Hannah was 7.......now tell me, WHERE DID THE TIME GO???   Monday, December 30, 2013 LasT T sTands for Tuesday for 2013 The last time to link up with Elizabeth and Bluebeard for this year for a good cup of Tea, coffee, juice, adult beverages and for us a cold soda.  I got to have both GD's today (Monday here), Dad came by and took ...

http://alteredbooklover.blogspot.com/  Share your Second Look here.   Tuesday, August 3, 2010 GC64 color challenge-red,orange & yellow Once again I grabbed by favorite sun flower stamp for the Gingersnap color challenge. This is such a simple stamp and sooo many possibilities! I stamped it on a light yellow cs then used my Tombow markers (? again?) to shade them in. Stacked then in a pretty little basket stamped image and tied a fabric ribbon around it. Polka dots and gingham just seem to go together, so the accent of red cs and red with white polka dot ribbon were added to make the color combo. Check out the other submissions to this color challenge here: http://gingersnapcreations.blogspot.com/2010/07/gc64-color-challenge-yellow-orange-red.html Not only is this blog a great place to hang you art work but the yahoo group is so friendly, and welcoming. ya otta give it a try!

A Second Look for October 2nd.

A LITTLE REMINISCING   FROM LAST YEAR   Monday, September 22, 2014 This is not what this page started out to be.......but isn't that just the way it goes at times? If this had been my intentions as I started this page I wouldn't have glued down all those scraps of paper first, or at least left the center smooth to paint on......LOL  All the color is acrylic paint, the leaves, along the edges are modeling paste (note to self: Need to get more made ASAP) The falling leaves with the rhyme are die cuts from TH Tattered leaves.  I haven't drawn, or painted a Snoopy in y-e-a-r-s!!  Always loved that little mutt!   Inky Hugs Krisha

A 2nd look on the 2nd of August

This month I am sharing a card form 2010 to join in with Elizabeth the Altered Book Lover for a second look at everyone else's work.....Hope you can join us. Friday, March 26, 2010 GC47 Color Challenge I have been working on this card for a swap, when I was browsing the blogs I fallow and realized this fell into the color challenge! The face is from Stamp ZIA, colored with pencil, trimmed out, then 3 coats of ultra thick UTTE. She is layered onto copper craft metal that had been wrinkled then rubbed with blue, green and a little brown for that patina look. The black leather paper was torn around the edges then rubbed with copper metallic rub-ons. I found the round copper and silver accent piece lurking in a forgotten box. It all lays on a muted green card. I love this card and hate to send it away, but I know my swap friend will enjoy it too.
